Systematic Review Data Extraction Instructions

Project Overview

This project involves a systematic review examining the management of locoregional recurrences in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). The review focuses exclusively on squamous histology.

Key Questions (KQs)

The following 5 key questions guide this systematic review:

• KQ1: Is aggressive local therapy for rapid, large, and incurable locoregional-only recurrences appropriate?
• KQ2: What are appropriate treatment options for resectable disease?
• KQ3: What is the appropriate management of patients treated nonoperatively?
• KQ4: Is there an appropriate role for stereotactic body radiation?

Evidence Table Format

When extracting data from articles, populate a CSV file with the following columns:

Citation	Full citation in standard format (Author, Title, Journal, Year, Volume, Pages)
Study Type	Design, setting, enrollment period, registration number if applicable (≤100 words)
Patients	Sample size, key demographics, inclusion criteria, disease characteristics (≤100 words)
Primary Endpoint	Brief description only (e.g., "Progression-free survival")
Study Objective/Purpose	Main aims of the study (≤100 words)
Results/Key Findings	Primary and key secondary outcomes with statistics (≤100 words)
Pertinent Key Question(s)	List applicable KQ numbers only (e.g., "KQ2, KQ3") or "None" if not relevant
Study Quality	Single integer only (see grading scale below)

Study Quality Grading Scale

• 1 = Well-designed study
• 2 = Moderately well-designed study
• 3 = Study with design limitations
• 4 = Not primary evidence
• M = Meta-analysis

Article Types

The following article types may be included in this review:

• Clinical trials (randomized and nonrandomized)
• Retrospective studies
• Systematic reviews and meta-analyses
• Case series
• Clinical guidelines

Output Requirements

• Format: CSV files
• Word limits: 100 words maximum for Study Type, Patients, Study Objective/Purpose, and Results/Key Findings columns
• Primary Endpoint: Keep brief (a few words)
• Study Quality: Integer only (1, 2, 3, 4, or M)
• Pertinent Key Question(s): List KQ numbers only (e.g., "KQ1, KQ3") or "None" if the article is not relevant to any KQ

Workflow

1. Review the uploaded article(s) and the key questions
2. Extract relevant information into the evidence table format
3. Assign study quality grade based on the grading scale
4. Determine which KQ(s) the article addresses (or "None")
5. Output as CSV file
